Soundproofing Acoustic Floors

There are a vast number of options available to improve the sound resistance of existing floors.

Broadly, these fall into two categories:

1. Soundproofing within the floor void following the removal of floorboards– may include sound absorber, sound barrier layer(s) and acoustic boards.

2. Over floor treatment either over the existing floorboards or after removal and disposal of the floorboards – may include sound barrier layers, acoustic underlay, and floating floors. Sometimes both treatments may be advisable for optimum performance.

Important Note: Hard Flooring

If engineered flooring or tiles are required, then acoustic treatment within the floor void and over floor treatment (floating floor) will both be required to provide a similar impact noise reduction, when compared to the fitting of a good quality carpet and underlay over ‘basic’ underfloor acoustic treatment.
